Description:
The Senior NEPA Project Manager will be responsible for helping to drive and grow HDR's environmental sciences program in the Omaha office. This individual will have experience in managing private and public sector projects (transportation, FHWA, DOD, power and energy, rail) including assistance in conducting feasibility/siting studies, working closely with engineering teams, leading Environmental Impact Statements (EISs)/Environmental Assessments (EAs) as required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and associated regulatory compliance, and permitting various facility and linear projects for construction.

Experience and professional relationships in the Midwest is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory, along with the ability to direct existing work and assist in developing new work. In addition, the individual will be responsible for identifying key clients, determining their primary needs, and outlining potential areas where HDR multidisciplinary teams can add value. Primary clients would include state Departments of Transportation, local utilities, federal land management agencies, power and energy generators and transmitters, alternative energy developers, and railroad companies. The primary duties of the position would include:

  • Leading NEPA/planning/permitting teams in project execution, which includes execution of quality control and coordination of staffing
  • Overseeing project schedules, budgets, and staffing/workload allocation
  • Assist in the development of the regional environmental science program, including recruiting of environmental professionals
  • Establishing client relations and involvement with marketing, contractual, technical and production meetings
  • Providing mentoring and training to junior level staff
  • Coordinating subcontractor relationships
  • Involvement in select industry associations to advance client relationships and further industry analysis
This position would report to the Environmental Sciences Business Class Leader and be based in the Omaha office. However, close coordination and collaboration with other HDR offices and environmental sciences and design groups would be required. The position would support the Omaha Environmental & Resource Management (E&RM) group in strategic planning for growth of the program in the Midwest region.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions.

Confers with scientists or engineers to conduct analyses, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests.
Adjusts formulas and processes based on test results.

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; preferably in Chemical Science and 5+ years related laboratory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Project Engineer

Wheaton Sanitary District, a municipal corporation, is seeking a project engineer. The Project Engineer is one of five department heads that reports to the Executive Director. Responsibilities include monitoring and/or conducting studies, designs, construction, and maintenance projects for both the plant and the collection system. Responsibilities will also include supervision over one field inspector, maintenance of the computer network, ArcGIS, and SCADA system, and the overseeing the permitting process. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems is desirable.

The position is responsible for day-to-day engineering activities associated with capital improvement and plant maintenance projects. May prepare plans, specifications, and bidding documents for small projects.  Establishes criteria for selection of engineering consultants for Board approval, recommends contract awards, and negotiates engineering contracts for Board approval.  The Project Engineer reviews and approves plans and specifications prepared by consulting engineers, reviews bids, recommends award of contracts, administers contracts, and recommends payment to contractors.

The successful candidate will likely have 5 to 15 years experience in the municipal wastewater industry, 2 years experience with construction contract administration, have supervisory experience, be active in a wastewater industry organization, and active in a local civic organization. A Bachelor of Science in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering is required. A Professional Engineer License in the State of Illinois, or the ability to obtain a license within one (1) year of employment is required. IEPA Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certification in any grade within one (1) year of employment is preferred. Residency within 25 miles of the office is preferred.

Plant Operator (Liquids)

Laboratory Analyst

Wheaton Sanitary District has an immediate full-time opening for a Laboratory Analyst. 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday, with alternate holiday work required. Responsibilities include: routine analyses of wastewater, analyses of biosolids, sample collection, record keeping, maintenance, and cleaning. Position reports to the chemist. City of Elmurst Superintendent Water/Wastewater Department

Position Summary
The Superintendent manages the operation and maintenance of the City’s water and wastewater reclamation facilities, including the potable water systems, SCADA, 10 sanitary pumping stations, storm water pumping stations and the city 8 MGD water reclamation facility. The position reports to the City’s Director of Water/Wastewater.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years experience in wastewater treatment plant and potable water supply operations and maintenance, including experience with lift station and water production operations.

CIVIL ENGINEER-CHICAGO

Duties:  perform engineering tasks in the water and wastewater industry, including studies and design of treatment works, pumping stations, wastewater collection systems and drinking water distribution systems.  Relative to treatment works, responsibilities will include preparation of the conceptual design memorandum and civil/mechanical layout of treatment works where the process design is done by others.  This will include layout and design of site work, piping systems, treatment process structures, architectural structures, pump and piping systems, and other mechanical, physical, and chemical treatment processes, and development of specifications and drawings.  Collection and distribution system design tasks will include preparation of the conceptual design memorandum, sizing of facilities, pipeline routing, piping and valve design, layout of structures,  development of material and equipment specifications and design drawings. Pumping station design responsibilities will include development of the conceptual design memorandum, siting of facilities, layout of buildings and structures, sizing of pumping equipment,  piping and valves and development of specifications and design drawings.  Will be responsible for the following: prepare basic engineering calculations, following standard methods, and principals used in similar engineering analyses; perform basic equipment selection research and develop recommendations with supportive materials; prepare documents, specifications and drawings; check manufacturers' drawings, logic diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagram drawings; maintain engineering records and lists as required; prepare basic design sketches and preliminary layouts for drafting and incorporation into final plans; provide general marketing support; and assist in preparing applications for regulatory agency permits related to these facilities."

Qualifications
Requirements:  BSCE plus three years related experience, or in the alternative, Masters degree in Civil Engineering plus two years related experience.  Must have experience in or knowledge of design of treatment works, pumping stations, wastewater collection systems and drinking water distribution systems. Must be able to work extensively in Excel and Word as well as other design aid software.  Must be EIT eligible.
