May is fast approaching, which means the 86th CSWEA Annual Meeting in Madison will be here before we know it! It is hard to believe that my tenure as Wisconsin Section Chair is
nearly at an end. It has been a true honor to serve in this capacity. I would like to thank Josh Gable for making my job easy with his time and effort organizing our meetings and keeping the
books. Josh and I have learned the ropes of Wisconsin Section leadership together and he will continue to do a fine job as our secretary/treasurer. I would also like to offer my sincere thanks to Jane
Carlson and Dave Arnott. Both have been invaluable as mentors and have been incredibly helpful with their institutional understanding of our fine organization.
I would like to thank Dan Lynch for his time as CSWEA Executive Director. Though his time in the position was short, I enjoyed
corresponding with him and would like to wish Dan the very best in his future endeavors. With that, I would like to welcome Mohammed Haque as our new Executive Director. The Wisconsin
Section is looking forward to working with Mohammed to make our great organization even better!
Congratulations are in order for two section members taking
new leadership roles for the new administrative year beginning in May. Julie McMullin, of Brown and Caldwell, will serve a one year term as the Wisconsin Section Vice Chair. Julie has extensive
experience on the Wisconsin Section Watershed Committee in leadership roles and has over 14 years of consulting experience. Brandon Koltz, of Brandon Koltz Water & Environmental
Consulting, LLC, will serve a two-year term as Wisconsin Section Trustee. Brandon has served on the Wisconsin Section Watershed Management Committee and Government Affairs Committee
including chairing the latter for the last three years. Brandon has also served on a variety of WEF committees and has over 35 years of consulting experience.
The Wisconsin Section will have some new faces in several committee chair positions beginning in May 2013. Sharon Thieszen, of
the City of Sheboygan Wastewater Treatment Facility, will assume the position of chair of the Public Education & Awareness Committee when
Dale Doerr steps down. Mark Mittag, of CH2M Hill, will assume the position of chair of the Watershed Management Committee with Julie
McMullin, of Brown and Caldwell, as his vice chair. I will be stepping into the position of chair of the Safety Committee.
My primary goal for the 2012-2013 administrative year is to keep our Strategic Plan on the front burner of the section.
It is my opinion we have been doing a good job. I want to thank our section leadership and our committee chairs for
making this a priority. As we continue to move forward, we need to strive to keep it a high priority. My hope is that at the
end of the Strategic Plan cycle, a committee is necessary to build a new one from the ground up!
We continue to work on addressing the new professional development hours (PDHs) requirement for professional
engineer license renewals. The Wisconsin Section is putting together an ad hoc committee in order to determine
the appropriate number of PDHs for each section event requesting them. Stay tuned for more on this in the near future.
I encourage each one of you as members of the Wisconsin Section to continue your strong support of our goals and
initiatives, both at the section level and the association level. It is through volunteer members that we are successful in
tracking, reporting, and educating our membership on key issues through each year. I tip my hat to each of you and am excited about what we can accomplish in this final stretch of
the administrative year and beyond!
