The Water Plants Manager oversees the operations, budget, and projects for the Milwaukee Water Works (MWW) treatment plants, pumping stations, booster stations, and water storage tanks, ensuring the provision of the highest quality drinking water to the City of Milwaukee and fifteen neighboring communities.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Requirements

- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Municipal Waterworks Operator Certification Subclass S (Surface Water) by the end of the probationary period and throughout employment.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment. (Private automobile allowance may be paid pursuant to Section 350-183 of the Milwaukee Code.)
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
Desirable Qualifications

Current Salary
The current salary range (Pay Range 1NX) is $140,957-$154,280 annually, and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $145,186-$158,909 annually. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

Essential Duties
- Develops wastewater rates for commission approval annually.
- Prepares annual O&M and Capital budgets for both Water & Wastewater.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting or related field with three to five years of finance and supervisory experience, preferably in a public utility municipal, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Experience with intergovernmental, regional, and utility agreements
- Experience in working through a software conversion, update or with new a software vender is desirable.
- Familiarity with a customer or account-driven software platform for record keeping, invoicing, billing.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office is required.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and maps of the City water system and access the Utility’s Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) and interpret computer maps.

Our Plant and Collection System operates 365/24/7. Our normal working hours are within a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm. Call out is paid at a 4hr Overtime minimum). There is also a mandatory rotating Saturday-Sunday supervisory shift at the Plant (taking Thursday-Friday off as your weekend) once approximately every 10 weeks. While Overtime/Holiday/on-call pay is generous here, we all work hard to keep breakdowns (and subsequent Overtime hours) to a minimum.
